Achieving Minimum Viable Population in the nuclei introduced in the Sibillini.

By releasing chamois in the Monti Sibillini National Park in the first 3 years of the project, integrating with those already released in previous years, the objective is to reach a total number of 300 freed animals, with a sex ratio weighted on the female. Based on previous experiences, results show that this is the Minimum Viable Population necessary to achieve establishing the fourth population of Apennine chamois. The work will be carried out with the support of OUNISI and foresees using, at different times, both chamois originating from presently working wildlife parks, and those captured in the wild in the Majella and Gran Sasso-Laga Parks. The chamois released will be fitted with auricular tags and radio-collars (some satellite linked) and will be, as required by IUCN protocols, subject to a specific monitoring program.
